News Update  |  April 2009

Rod Laight

Welcome to Spring 2009

This newsletter comes as the Chancellor’s Budget Statement is being pored over and the likely impacts analysed.

This Budget and the current crisis makes it very difficult to do any forward planning for our businesses, and some, even large, companies are already facing most uncertain futures; but we here at Reddifast are taking an optimistic view, reflected in our stockholdings and prices.

Your thoughts, reactions and observations would be particularly welcome as we try as best we can to respond to the situation as it develops, in the best interests of our customers.

Supply Issues & Current Situation

It has become apparent recently that some rolling mills have significant problems. Although this was, to some extent, expected in the current global economic circumstances, the situation has been aggravated by the shutting down of some 45% of hot rolling capacity in Europe alone.

This has lead very quickly to some spasmodic and erratic scheduling and actual shortages in various areas.

Reddifast has been tracking this situation for some time, as our regular Newsletter readers will know. Throughout these difficult times our cold rolling mill has continued to be totally reliable and we know has a steady flow of hot rolled billet in to their mill.

We are reflecting this in maintaining our high stock levels and in reduced prices, and we will continue to do so.

Your views and experiences on your own experiences of the situation would be most welcome.

No Barriers to Reddifast

Gloucester Quays

A novel diversification for Reddifast has been producing car park barrier posts in spring steel.

Reddifast has now been contracted to supply a range of spring steel posts for one of the largest car park barrier contracts awarded to date in the UK. Contracted by Adey Steels, The Gloucester Quays Car Park Barrier Contract requires 3,474m of car park barrier.

To comply with the strict British Standards for such installations, the Reddifast posts were subjected to rigorous testing at MIRA, the Motor Industry Research Association. The tests including a series of ‘real time’ crashes with actual vehicles.

Not an armchair critic

Student Emilie Garrould, studying 3D Design at Easton College, Norwich has designed a "futuristic" shaped chair as part of her vocational studies.

Following discussions and advice from Reddifast, Emilie is using our Hardened & Tempered spring steel strip to construct the chair.

15 metres of material, 1.00 mm thick and 228 mm wide is being supplied.

I hope this helps, and provides some optimism, in this current difficult business climate.

We will be sending out future issues on a regular basis and would welcome your input.

Please click here to have a look at our website, where you will find details of all our products and services. We have a wider range than you probably know, or use already. We also have a very handy steel gauge conversion table there too.

Rod
