World Steel Price and Supply Crisis Part 3:
The Green Shoots of Recovery?

Mild steel, low carbon steel and galvanised steel prices have dropped dramatically in this first quarter of 2009, alongside production volumes.

Historically we would have expected to see the cost of high carbon, spring quality steel follow this by April, but due to the higher cost of production and special rolling that these products require, it is unlikely that prices in these products will follow the same levels this time. .

Reddifast is already finding that steel called up for parts dropped from the schedules over a year ago is now being put back on order with us.

Similarly, although replenishment levels are unlikely to be at the same, higher levels, as a year ago, we at Reddifast are firmly taking the optimistic view of a lift in business and have increased our stock holding by some 500 tonnes.

This increase in our stock, taken with our “best in the industry” (customer quote) fast-response delivery service, means less stock holding at our customers, thus not tying up their capital in stock.

Your views and experiences on this ‘green shoots’ issue would be particularly welcome.

'Comfort and Joy' for fasteners producers

We pass on some good news for fasteners producers at last.

On 31st January the Council of the European Commission imposed a definitive anti-dumping duty on imports of Chinese fasteners made from steel.

Although it specifically excludes stainless steel we hope this will provide some assistance to our fastener clients and perhaps help energise the market.

This latest action has been a long time coming. It follows investigations begun in late 2007 which themselves followed long-standing and widespread complaints.

A new look for Reddifast

Reddifast has contracted Eagle Web Solutions to design a new website for Reddifast Steels Ltd.

Expected to be up and running before the next news update late next month, the site will offer much more information about our ranges, specifications New logo
and applications, easier to use enquiry and contact pages, regular industry and Reddifast news, plus links to helpful industry sites

We also know our steel gauge conversion table is popular and well used, so we will be adding downloadable, print friendly tables of metric/UK conversions, hardness conversions, steel strip specifications and others.

Click here to let us know what you would like to see on the new site.

...And a new business

Reddifast Barriers has now been formally launched

Built on our wide experience in spring steels, and following industry-standard tests, we have responded to many enquiries for using our expertise to provide spring steel - “rebound posts” - for car park crash barriers.

With a number of high profile installations already completed by our new customers, Reddifast has created Reddifast Barriers as a separate business, dedicated to bringing the significant safety, installation and cost benefits to this new market.

Click here for more information about Reddifast Barriers, or to tell us about new applications of Reddifast Steels for your products.

Thanks for taking the time to read this issue of
our news update.

In the current business climate I hope you found this issue even more interesting than Issue 2.

I hope this helps, and provides some optimism, in this current difficult business climate.

Please click here to have a look at our existing website where you will find details of all our products and services. We have a wider range than you probably know or use already. We also have a very handy steel gauge conversion table there too.

Regards,

Rod
