Welcome to Autumn 2009
The build-up to the 2010 Election begins as we issue this Autumn Newsletter. |
We still feel some optimism at Reddifast, although the pattern of ordering remains unchanged. Large schedules are still being replaced by smaller batch orders with customers being cautious about forward commitment
Manufacturing still struggles to have a voice, and to feel properly represented and supported, by both the politicians and the banks.
Timing is now critical, with an election due in the next eight months. I am looking into the possibility of establishing a membership-based Manufacturers’ Association, to ensure our value to the UK economy, now and for the future, is recognised and reflected in the various party manifestos.
Your thoughts, reactions and observations would be particularly welcome, and valued, at this crucial time for our industry

Steel Prices & Availability
Our industry now has no control over European steel producers because they now control ALL narrow mill production worldwide.
Reddifast has fought hard against the inevitable price increases which have been engineered by the steel producers, who have been creating steel shortages to force up prices. Price rises are now inevitable.
Reddifast is trying to maintain its current stock levels and prices in this hostile situation, and will continue to do so, while keeping a close watch on the situation.
Our industry used to have an input into the UK cold rolling mills’ strategies, and bodies such as BISPA could advise on prices and production. That has now all changed, with the control of European, and indeed worldwide, prices and production levels being in the hands of just two steel conglomerates. UK market conditions, and the health of our industry do not seem to be a consideration in their strategies.
Your own views and experiences of the situation would be most welcome. Let us know here

From Steel to Barriers & NOW WIRE
Reddifast now has a dedicated Wire Team and is now taking forward orders for fast turn-round stainless steel wire, and carbon steel wire.
Reddifast will not be applying the International Nickel Surcharge regime to its stainless steel prices, making Reddifast prices VERY competitive.

Reeling them in
 |
The best and most exclusive fly fishing reels in the world now feature Reddifast spring steel.
Richard Kell trusts Reddifast to provide, on a long-term basis, small batches of spring steel strip, hardened and tempered to blue 'C', for his hand made reels. |
As virtual works of art, and with some unique manufacturing processes and features, many hours of work go in to these highly valued reels, which are priced at c.£1600 each.
Rod recalled that fishing reels were a major product in his home town of Redditch but sadly
they are no longer manufactured, along with fishing rods and hooks the industry has all but disappeared.
Read more, and see the reels on the Richard Kell website
